Football Outright Betting Odds

Many punters like to enjoy football outright betting and this is also known as antepost betting which means you are betting on long-term markets rather than football games on a match-to-match basis. This can be an enormously rewarding way to place football bets and it can also see you get a run for your money which last months or even years depending on how long you’re prepared to tie your money up for.

What is Outright Betting?

Let’s take the English Premier League as an example. At the beginning of a particular season and before a match has even been played, the bookies will create a number of outright betting football markets for this division. These markets present an opportunity for a punter to predict what will happen on a long-term basis rather than an individual match. Outright betting markets then re-open after each match, where the odds are updated.

You might want to bet on the Premier League Winner or Top Goalscorer and these are classed as antepost football betting markets because they are long-term propositions which are only settled at the end of the season. Some outright betting markets are settled at an earlier point such as Top at Christmas, Bottom at Christmas and even Top at the end of August.

If you place an outright bet, then you have to understand that your money could be tied up until the end of the season, with all top bookmakers offering customers the chance to bet win singles or each-way on most outright markets. Some will be suspended after the first match is played and remain closed from that point onwards, while the more popular antepost football markets will re-open on a regular basis.

The same applies to international tournaments like the 2022 World Cup. You can bet on the winner of the tournament before it starts and indeed right the way through the tournament. Unless there is a cash out option available, your stake will be tied up until the tournament is finished.

How Outright Football Betting Works

Let’s say we want to place a bet on the Premier League Top Goalscorer betting market at the beginning of the season. Every bookmaker will price up a market like this and you’ll find outright football betting odds available for the best attacking players at all twenty clubs. The favourites might be trading at around the 4/1 mark, while you can find some players are available at 100/1 or even 250/1 depending on their perceived probability of winning the Premier League Golden Boot.

A betting customer can go through the Top Goalscorer betting odds and work out which selections they fancy the most. There’s the option to choose more than one selection and the same applies to other antepost markets. You might want to choose three or four players and have them against the field, especially if they’re all trading at odds of 20/1 or more, something which would mean a profitable return whichever one won the overall prize.

Once you have placed your antepost football bets, there are a number of options you have for that particular market providing that it reopens on a regular basis. You can choose to stick with your original selections and cheer them on every week in the hope that one of them ends up landing you a profitable return.

Alternatively, there might be the option to Cash Out on your outright football bets, especially if your selections are doing well and there’s the chance to make an early profit. Given that many antepost betting markets can take months to be settled, there’s certainly an advantage to releasing some early money from your antepost wager.

There is also the chance to bet each-way on a lot of outright football selections. If you’re betting on Premier League Winner or Top Goalscorer, then there is a chance to make money even if your selection finishes second or third depending on the place terms. However, a betting market such as Relegation would not offer each-way betting possibilities as it’s either a team is relegated or they’re not.

Best Outright Football Betting Markets

As mentioned, there are a huge number of outright football betting markets created by each bookmaker at the start of a competition. This is especially the case for leading football leagues such as English Premier League, German Bundesliga, Spanish La Liga and Italian Serie A. However, the same applies to UEFA and FIFA competitions such as Champions League, Europa League, European Championships and World Cup.

Bet on the Outright Winner

This is the most popular outright football betting market. It’s very simple and involves predicting the winner of a football division such as the English Premier League. Every team involved in that particular competition will be priced up, even the rank outsiders, with Leicester City famously winning at odds of 5,000/1 in 2016 and that means that many punters like to bet on history repeating itself.

The Winner betting market will re-open after each round of matches has been played so that you can check out the latest prices. The odds will change according to what has happened in the most recent games and the Outright Winner market will remain open until the competition is done and dusted. Each-way betting is generally available although the terms can change as the season unravels.

Bet on the Relegation Market

In addition to backing teams to do well for the next football season, you can also punt on them doing badly. This includes backing a side in the Premier League Relegation betting, market while there are also football relegation betting markets available for divisions such as the English Championship, La Liga and the Bundesliga.

It’s usually the case that a number of teams are relegated from a particular division and so it’s possible to pick out more than one club from the list and have multiple winners for this market. If you’re betting on the Premier League relegation betting market, there is sometimes the opportunity to pick out the three teams who will go down and you can get a really big price about this happening.

Top Goalscorer or Golden Boot Betting

Many punters love the chance to bet on Top Goalscorer for a particular competition and this can be especially good fun when it comes to a European Championship or a World Cup where the winner walks off with the World Cup Golden Boot What betting customers particularly enjoy is the fact that the market is generally wide open and there can be any number of potential winners compared to a “Winner” outright market where only a handful of teams can realistically win a division.

Customers will look at the scoring stats from previous seasons to get an idea of which players are likely to find the net most for the coming campaign. It’s great to be able to cheer on certain players for every game of the season and it can get really exciting if they’re on the goal trail and looking as though they’re going to land you some money. Each-way betting is also popular for these type of markets.

World Cup Group Betting

Another popular outright market, which is available on international tournaments, is Group Betting. Rather than it lasting until the vey end of the tournament, bets are settled once the group stage of the competition is over and the winner of each group is known. World Cup 2022 Group Betting is incredibly popular at football betting sites this year. The market will also be available on European Championships and even in some club tournaments, like the Champions League or Europa League.

These can be placed as singles or in multiples. Depending on the site, they may even qualify for acca insurance, thought it would be best to check this before placing your bets.

Bet on a Top Four or Top Six Finish

When it comes to the English Premier League and other leading European football leagues, securing a top four spot will land you a place in next season’s Champions League. Therefore, even if a team falls short in their quest to land the title, landing a top four finish is a pretty good second prize and the bookmakers regularly have an outright betting market for this purpose.

As per the relegation betting market, there are multiple winners in this market there are clearly four teams that will be settled as winners for a Top Four Finish. There is often a Top Six Finish betting market for the Premier League, with fifth and sixth generally qualifying for the Europa League and that will include a wider spread of teams who will be hoping to land themselves European football the following season.

Bet on the Season Handicap Market

The Season Handicap outright betting market continues to be popular with punters every year. This is where each team in the Premier League is given a fictional handicap points start (aside from the favourite who starts on scratch). All the teams are priced at around 16/1 and you have to work out which club is going to finish top of the table when you add their real points to their handicap points.

The bookmakers often have different odds and varying handicaps about each team, so it often pays to shop around if you really fancy a Premier League to punch above their weight. Ultimately, you are looking for a club to collect more points than expected, with the handicaps being staggered according to the Winner odds.

Bet on Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year

There’s always plenty of chat surrounding who is going to be named Player of the Year and this generally comes down to a player vote that takes place towards the end of February or the beginning of March. The winning player doesn’t always come from the team that wins the league and the odds tend to fluctuate a great deal during the course of the season depending on which players are most in form.

There is also a PFA Young Player of the Year award where punters can bet on this outright betting market and it often pays to know who is eligible to win this prize. It’s also good to monitor the up and coming stars who are starting to shine for their respective clubs and try to land the odds before they get too small.

When to Bet on Outright Markets

While the most popular time to place a bet on an outright betting market is before the football season has started, that’s not to say it’s always the best one! Its true that there is a bigger variety of antepost football betting markets before a ball has been kicked, especially if you’re looking to bet on Team Specials such as Top Manchester United scorer or Top Liverpool scorer as these markets can often be left closed when the campaign starts.

However, many punters like to wait until a few games have been played before having a punt on the outright betting markets. It makes sense to gauge the performance levels of a particular team or player before deciding whether they’re a good outright wager, with the bookies adjusting their prices according to what’s been happening in each game.

After four rounds of fixtures, you might decide that a particular team are a good bet to win their respective division due to the fact that they’ve enjoyed a flying start. Similarly, a striker might have bagged a few goals and you decide that the price is only going to get increasingly short which means a bet on them to be top scorer for that division.

Another good time to bet on outright markets is when you feel that a price is too big, especially if a team has an easy or difficult run of fixtures on the horizon. For example, a team might be mid-table in the Premier League and a big price to be relegated, although they could have a tricky set of upcoming games which means a bet on them to go down could put you in a good position.

It could simply be the case that you find an outright betting price which seems too big considering the actual probability of that outcome happening. As with all betting, it’s about trying to secure the value and gain an edge over the bookmaker. Having Cash Out as a potential betting option can be a huge advantage and allows you to come out of the bet early.

Antepost Outright Betting

As soon as we know the champion of a particular football division, it’s actually possible to place an antepost outright bet on the winner for next season while the current campaign is still in progress. The bookies know that the punters want to find out the latest betting odds for what might happen next and it’s therefore possible to have a bet that might last roughly twelve months without being settled. It’s especially good if you have a strong view about a certain outcome and expect the odds to shorten as time moves along.

If you’re looking to bet football antepost, then the relegation betting market is also accompanied by a Relegation Treble market where you can take a punt on all three teams to be relegated. That means you need all of them to go down in order to win your bet, although you can get much bigger odds and go for a number of selections.

For some of the more successful Premier League teams such as Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea, it’s also possible to bet on Multiple Trophies which allows you to punt on which pieces of silverware will be claimed by a particular side. For example, you could back Liverpool to land the quadruple of Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup and Champions League at massive odds and it gives you a run for your money.

For the more popular football divisions, you might also be able to wager on a Top Half Finish or Bottom Half Finish, while some bookies will also create Season Match Bets. You might be able to bet on which of Arsenal or Tottenham will finish higher, while there is sometimes Group Betting where you can pick out the winner of each Champions League section.

What to Consider for Outright Betting

It’s good to place an outright football bet with your eyes wide open. If you’re betting on the Premier League Winner in August and the season runs through until May, then you’re committing a certain amount of money for several months unless you plan to exercise a Cash Out option somewhere along the way. As mentioned, some outright betting markets don’t run for the entire season and a bet on the “Winner” might be settled early if a champion is announced with games to spare.

However, some customers don’t want to tie money up for a long period of time, while others regard it as a fun investment that could yield a return come the end of the season. After all, once you have placed an antepost bet, you can sit back and cheer on a team or player without having to back them every game instead. On that front, it can actually be a beneficial type of bet to have.

Naturally, outright betting is generally on long-term markets and that means that things can change over time. A team might looked doomed for relegation after a handful of games, although a January transfer window packed with recruitment could see a real surge of improvement when it comes to the latest results, so you have to factor that in.

Similarly, if you’re betting on Top Goalscorer, this bet is a little more fragile on the basis that your player could sustain a long-term injury that ruins the wager. On the flip side, your player-related bet could benefit if others sustain an injury. However, there’s always the prospect of your player scoring so many goals that he could get snapped up by a team in another division.

We think it’s always worth following the trends when it comes to results and also the way in which the odds are moving. That is why it can often pay to keep your powder dry and not bet until a few games into the season. Providing that you are focusing on an outright betting market which is going to re-open on a timely basis, then you could be on to a winner.
