*Odds up to date as of June 6, 2022
Barnsley were unable to stay in the Championship last season and the Yorkshire club are now among the League One title favourites. However, they are looking for a manager to engineer a promotion campaign and we are seeing a couple of familiar names at the top of the betting.
The latest odds suggest that Neil Warnock could make a return to football management at Oakwell, with Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink currently on the books at Burton Albion although he might be tempted to make the switch to another League One club, while Michael Duff is someone who has previously done well with Cheltenham Town.
Barnsley have previously been specific about the style of football that they want to play, with chairman Chien Lee having previously recruited managers like Daniel Stendel and Valerien Ismael who have come in and brought about an attacking brand of football for a Yorkshire club who previously cemented themselves as a Championship outfit.
However, it would be interesting to see whether these principles are compromised and perhaps Neil Warnock could be a coup to have at League One level. The manager has an enormous amount of experience with clubs such as Sheffield United and Cardiff, with lots of promotions on his CV.
Now that Barnsley are in League One, the Tykes might want a manager who has experience of this division and that could see Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink in the running to get the job. The Dutchman is enjoying a second stint in charge of a Burton team who punch above their weight in this division.
The 50-year-old has also held managerial positions with Queens Park Rangers and Northampton Town, with Hasselbaink having previously shown his ambition by heading to Loftus Road and perhaps he could be given a bigger budget at Oakwell.

Michael Duff has made a name for himself at Cheltenham Town and he was recently linked to the vacant Burnley manager's job, with the 44-year-old having done an excellent job at Whaddon Road. The former Northern Ireland international is now a wanted man and perhaps he would see the Barnsley job as an attractive one.
Duff has given no indication that he's ready to leave Cheltenham although some of the Robins' performances last season were particularly eye-catching. They produced some high-scoring games and the fact that the team enjoyed promotion from League Two in the first place is testament to this candidate.
Barnsley have previously shown that they are prepared to look beyond the obvious when selecting a candidate to take charge of the club. Eric Ramsay is not particularly well-known in football circles although he has been coaching at Manchester United and the Yorkshire Evening Post have reported that he might be in line to take charge at Oakwell.
It appears that Ramsay has specifically been coaching set pieces at Old Trafford and he has previously been the academy boss at Shrewsbury Town, with this candidate currently trading at betting odds of 12/1 which makes him the fourth favourite.
