Ange Postecoglou Huge Favourite to Be Next Celtic Boss

From completely out of nowhere, it now appears that Ange Postecoglou could be about to take charge at Celtic, with the Australian having reportedly held talks with the Old Firm regarding the prospect of taking charge and aiming to bounce back with a team who finished a long way behind Rangers in the Scottish Premiership last season.

Much seems to hinge on whether Celtic can appoint the no-nonsense manager considering he doesn't have a Pro License, with reports now indicating that UEFA have told the Scottish club that it might take week for them to get the green light when it comes to appointing "The Postman".  However, Celtic will point to the fact that Steven Gerrard only completed his badges while at Rangers.

Postecoglou isn't a complete unknown in world football and he was manager of the Australian national team between 2013-2017, while he's currently in charge of Japanese J-League club Yokohama F. Marinos, although he has never held a management position in Europe and some might regard it as a risky selection.

Many media outlets report that the 55-year-old is in advanced talks with Celtic following Eddie Howe's discussions ultimately proving fruitful, with Postecoglou having previously shown his mean streak by stepping down from the Australian national team just months before the 2018 World Cup.

Will Steve Clarke Replace Neil Lennon As Celtic Manager?

Steve Clarke will be leading Scotland out in the delayed Euro 2020 tournament this summer although there has been a recent surge of money for the national team manager when it comes to the vacant Celtic manager’s position, with the former West Brom boss being touted as Neil Lennon’s replacement.

The 57-year-old has nationality on his side for this role, while he has also been the assistant manager of Chelsea, West Ham and Liverpool.
Stints at West Brom and Reading were largely difficult for the Scot, although the way he transformed the fortunes of Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership led to Clarke being given the nod by the Scottish FA for the national team job and it might well be the case that Celtic have already reached out to him with regard to replacing Lennon.

Lucien Favre Well Backed in Celtic Manager Market

While Eddie Howe has been Celtic manager betting favourite for several weeks, there has been money for Lucien Favre more recently, with the Swiss manager having bags of experience. He was most recently in charge of Borussia Dortmund where he served between 2018-20.

Favre was previously manager at Borussia Monchengladbach and Nice, with the 63-year-old potentially open to taking charge of this Scottish Premiership club and it would be a valuable acquisition as Celtic bid to regain the title that they lost to Rangers this season.

Roy Keane Back In Contention?

Roy Keane has been out of football management since being the assistant to Martin O’Neill at Nottingham Forest in 2019, while he’s not actually held a Head Coach role at any professional football club since leaving Ipswich Town in 2011. The 49-year-old was Ireland assistant boss under O'Neill and has recently largely focused on a media career where he’s regarded as a straight-talking pundit on Sky Sports.

However, Keane is still regarded as a contender on the Next Celtic Manager betting market. It's worth noting that the former midfielder had a brief spell at the Scottish Old Firm club during the 2005/6 season and clearly has some kind of affinity with a club who might welcome the fire that the Manchester United legend would bring to the role.

Maresca Could be Surprise Choice to Replace Lennon

Enzo Maresca is now trading at 15/2 with the best betting sites to become the next permanent manager of Celtic FC, with the Italian having been linked to the vacant position and he’s currently manager of the Manchester City Elite Development squad which indicates that he has a huge pedigree.

Maresca was a brilliant player during a successful career which saw him win the 2001-2 Serie A title with Juventus, with the 41-year-old having been assistant manager at West Ham during the 2018/19 English Premier League season, with the coach highly regarded by Pep Guardiola at City and it’s plausible that he’ll be interested in taking charge at Celtic.

Chris Wilder Now Among Celtic Manager Favourites

Chris Wilder was surprisingly given the heave-ho at Sheffield United a few months ago and he is heavily respected for his achievements at Bramall Lane which saw him take the Blades up two divisions and then keep the Yorkshire side afloat in the English Premier League.

It's not certain as to what Wilder will do next from a job perspective, although many are now linking the former Northampton manager to the vacant position at Celtic Park, with this being a potentially attractive option to someone who will have seen how it gave Brendan Rodgers the opportunity to use it as a springboard to land the job at Leicester City.

Frank Lampard Looking For New Role After Chelsea Split

It would be pretty interesting if Frank Lampard filled the dugout at Celtic considering his main adversary would be former England team-mate Steven Gerrard who has done such a good job at Rangers. The press would go mad to see these two coaches lock horns although the Celtic role could be well outside the comfort zone of Lampard.

The former Chelsea manager began his coaching career with a relatively successful time at Derby County before heading to Stamford Bridge, although he struggled to meet expectation levels with the Blues and was recently replaced by Thomas Tuchel. Perhaps a high-profile role in Scotland could be just what the doctor ordered.
