They always say that you shouldn't go back and perhaps Massimiliano Allegri is regretting his decision to serve a second stint at Juventus FC. The Italian was immensely successful at the Turin club the first time around, securing five successive Scudettos between the 2014-15 season and the 20118-19 campaign.
However, it appears that the magic has worn off for the 55-year-old who recently saw Juve lose 1-0 to newly-promoted Monza and it's been a testing season in the Champions League considering that the Italian outfit have suffered defeats to Paris Saint-Germain and Benfica already.
Juventus have ten points from seven games played so far and it will be interesting whether there's an appetite to change things, although Allegri has vowed to continue and he has a strong friendship with the club's owners.
Zinedine Zidane has previously been the clear favourite with the bookmakers for the Juventus manager position. The Frenchman truly exceeded expectations at the Santiago Bernabeu, although the former World Player of the Year stepped down after previously returning in 2019 to enjoy a second stint at this famous club. Paddy Power previously made him a solid favourite to take over from the struggling Andrea Pirlo before Allegri got the nod.
It’s entirely plausible that Juventus might look to him in order to bounce back from an underwhelming start to the season, with the former midfielder having previously turned out for the Old Lady and he enjoyed two Scudettos with the Turin club as a player, giving him legendary status.
Zidane has proved adept at working with world-leading players including Cristiano Ronaldo, with the 50-year-old having also guided Real Madrid to three Champions League successes and he’s regarded as a world-leading manager who might relish the chance to resurrect the fortunes of an ailing club.
Paolo Montero could be among the betting favourites for the Juventus FC manager's job, with this coach already on the payroll at the club and he's highly regarded after doing some sterling work with the youth team players.
Montero is currently in charge of the Juventus Under-19 squad and is part of the club's fabric, having made 186 appearances as a player for the Old Lady between 1996-2005. During that time he won four Scudettos and would dearly love the oppportunity to take charge of the first team and potentially restore their fortunes.
The Uruguayan does have some experience of managing in his native country and Argentina before returning to Italy and there have been press reports that he might be able to step into the void if Allegri does decide to leave.

Nobody can deny that Diego Simeone is one of the leading club managers in the world and the Argentine is a massive legend at Atletico Madrid considering that he has had the team competing hard with Barcelona and Real Madrid for countless years, with the manager having won two La Liga titles during his time at the club.
Simeone has been in charge of Atletico since 2011 and he guided the club to a first league title success during the 2013/14 season. They were also finalists in the Champions League at the end of the 2013/14 and 2015/16 seasons.
It might be that Simeone becomes a one-club manager and the Argentine has a massive bond with the passionate fanbase at the Wanda Metropolitano. However, the 52-year-old might feel as though he’s ready to test himself in another competitive European domestic league and they don’t come much bigger than Juventus.
Inzhagi has previously been manager of Lazio and was heavily linked to the vacant post at Tottenham Hotspur although the Italian didn't want to make the move to England. His achievements at the Stadio Olimpico did not go unnoticed by the powers-that-be at Internazionale and perhaps Juventus might try and swoop for this sought-after manager.
Inzaghi impressed with Lazio considering the fairly modest resources at his disposal compared to some of the bigger clubs in Italy, with the 46-year-old having been part of the coaching staff at the Italian capital club since 2010 and there could be some merit in encouraging him to lay the foundations for a potentially bright future at Juve.
Inzaghi held contract talks with Lazio at the end of the 2020/21 season before replacing Antonio Conte at Inter, although he has also talked about his personal ambition and that might see him leave Milan in order to further his managerial career, with Juventus an obvious fit for someone who wants to play attacking football.
It is clear that Juventus hold plenty of stock with hiring ex-playing legends after their recruitment of Andrea Pirlo and it could be that they take a punt on Fabio Cannavaro who has publicly declared an interest in returning to Italy and taking charge at the Old Lady.
Cannavaro is one of the most decorated players in Serie A history, turning out for the Azzurri on 136 occasions and the 47-year-old has enjoyed a number of overseas managerial assignments which recently saw him take charge of the Chinese national team after previously coaching in the Chinese Super League.
Cannavaro told Il Bianconero: “If a call arrives in Italy I will be ready. Pirlo’s choice was very right, who wouldn’t have accepted? They focused on the championship with a coach who knows the Italian teams well and who has proved his worth once again."
