The best bookmakers continue to update their Next Norwich City Manager betting market, with the Canaries currently operating in the Championship with Allan Russell in caretaker charge, and it's possible that he will be given a permanent contract at Carrow Road.

Russell is trading as joint-second favourite to replace Dean Smith, although it's David Wagner who is currently a shade of odds-on, and the former Huddersfield coach would be a logical choice for a club who are hoping to reignite their promotion prospects, with Norwich currently sitting seventh in the Championship table.

Plenty of national newspapers are now reporting that Norwich City are planning to hold talks with the former Huddersfield manager, with this meaning that the German-American is in pole position to replace Dean Smith.

Next Permanent Norwich City Manager

Norwich City are bidding to return to the Premier League this season although their promotion charge has recently hit the buffers. Three defeats in the past four games means that the Canaries have lost ground on the chasing teams and the owners have moved quickly to make a change.

David Wagner is someone who achieved the unthinkable with Huddersfield Town. Despite the Terriers having one of the smallest budgets in the Championship, the German-American managed to steer the club into the Premier League and then kept them afloat in the top flight for a single season.

Since then, the 51-year-old has had spells in charge of Schalke 04 and Young Boys, with Wagner currently a free agent and perhaps he'll be open to a return to England, with the Norwich squad already built for promotion.

Could Russell Be Promoted From Within at Carrow Road?

Norwich City played out a 1-1 draw with Reading on Friday night and it was Allan Russell who presided over the game, with the Scot currently in caretaker charge of a football team who will hope to make a return to the Premier League.

Russell was originally hired as a set piece coach at Carrow Road after previously having a similar role with the England national team and he has also experienced being in the dugout with Aberdeen. We've seen managers such as Gary O'Neil promoted from within at Bournemouth and it's possible that Norwich will stick with him if he manages to orchestrate a few victories.

Will Steve Bruce Land Yet Another Manager's Job?

Steve Bruce has now enjoyed twelve managerial positions during an eventful career, with the 61-year-old having enjoyed this with 11 unique clubs and several of his stints have been fairly short-lived. This includes the spell with West Brom where Bruce presided over 32 games which included a 25% win percentage although he's trading among the favourites for the Norwich job.

Previously to this, Bruce was in charge at Newcastle United and actually did a solid job without much financial backing. However, it's often been the case that a club's supporter base will turn against him, with this happening at Aston Villa before taking charge of Sheffield Wednesday for just 18 games.

Martin a Norwich Legend Who Could Switch From Swansea

Russell Martin made 284 performances for Norwich City between 2010-2018 and he could certainly be open to returning to the East Anglian club as a manager. This is another young coach who cut his teeth by taking charge of MK Dons between 2019 and 2021 before being approached by Swansea City and he has a reputation for playing vibrant attacking football.

Although the Swans only sit 15th in the Championship table, the Welsh club aren't blessed with money and the supporters generally feel as though Martin is doing a decent job in terms of building a squad. However, Martin will look at Norwich's relative resources and potentially feel as though he could achieve more with a club he knows very well.

Time For Dyche to Return to Football Management?

Sean Dyche has been out of work since leaving Burnley earlier this year, with the 51-year-old being linked to a host of vacant positions during the calendar year, although he continues to bide his time and wait for the right opportunity to come along.

Dyche spent 10 relatively successful years with the Lancashire club and achieved two promotions from the Championship, although some fans might be opposed to the brand of football with which he is associated. Perhaps this is an opportunity for him to reinvent himself.

The latest football betting odds suggest that Dyche could be an interested party and it could well be the case that he gets the opportunity for an interview before Norwich decide which way to go.

Robins Has Performed Minor Miracles With Coventry

Mark Robins is someone who stock has risen during his time with Coventry City. He's also someone with a Norwich City association and made 68 appearances between 1992 and 1995 where the forward was able to score 20 goals. Perhaps we might see him return to the East Anglian club.

At the age of 53, this could be the perfect opportunity for Robins to switch from the Midlands club and he could leave with his head held high. Despite a number of financial difficulties, Robins has steered the Sky Blues into the Championship and kept them in the second flight which has been an impressive feat.

We would anticipate that Norwich might want to make an approach for this manager, and Robins is currently an outsider with most betting sites when it comes to replacing Dean Smith.

Steven Gerrard Might Look For Instant Return to Management

Steven Gerrard replaced Dean Smith at Aston Villa and perhaps he's about to do the same at Norwich City. The Liverpool FC legend will be keen to rebuild his managerial career after a strong spell with Rangers was followed by a less successful stint with the Villains, although would he be the right fit for a club like Norwich?

After all, Gerrard has no experience of managing in the Championship and supporters might point to the fact that he couldn't get a tune out of the Villains despite a promising start. The 42-year-old might be happy to currently bide his time and wait for other opportunities to come along closer to home.

Chris Wilder Might Be a Good Fit for Canaries

Norwich City are likely to be drawing up a shortlist of potential managers and it might be the case that Chris Wilder is on the list. After all, this is someone with lots of experience and it's hard to get away from his tremendous achievements with Sheffield United where he was able to steer the Blades from League One to the Premier League.

Since then, Wilder has had a less successful spell with Middlesbrough although 45 games in charge is a small number compared to the 227 games that were overseen at Bramall Lane. Norwich might well reflect that this manager has the sort of profile to get more from an underachieving squad.

Hasenhuttl Also Among Norwich Manager Favourites

Ralph Hasenhuttl could be regarded as something of a coup among the Norwich City supporters, with the Austrian having performed well at Southampton for a number of years. He was recently relieved of his duties at St Mary's after previously keeping the Saints afloat for several seasons.

Hasenhuttl might have a desire to return to football management in England and this looks like an enticing position considering there's a genuine opportunity to steer the Canaries back into the top flight and build a squad that can finally compete in the top flight.

Having previously been in charge at RB Leipzig, Hasenhuttl has a wealth of experience and it will be interesting to see whether his price continues to shorten for the job.
